Labneh (Strained Yogurt / Easy Cream Cheese)

Equipment

  • Cheese cloth

Ingredients

  • 32 ounces Greek Yogurt preferably whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Pour the Greek yogurt in a large bowl then stir in the salt. Or you can also stir in the salt directly into the yogurt container (one dish less to wash).
  • Set a strainer over a deep bowl to collect the whey. Line the strainer with a cheese cloth (it should be folded a couple of times so you can have several layers of cheese cloth).
  • Pour the Greek yogurt mixture into the cheese cloth then fold the edges of the cloth over the Greek yogurt and tie them together. Place in the fridge for 24 to 48 hours.
  • After the yogurt has strained, take it out of the cheese cloth. Serve it as a dip with pita bread, use it as a spread in a sandwich, eat it on a bagel like cream cheese, or find other creative ways to eat it.
