Nutella Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

Cookie in skillet with ice cream topped slice

Today’s recipe is a Nutella Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie. This cookie has a crisp edge and a gooey center and it is oozing with chocolate and Nutella. Top it off with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream and it is complete. Plus it is so easy to put together, no need to chill the dough or anything. So whether you are celebrating Valentine’s Day or not, use this holiday as an excuse to treat yourself to this dessert.

I have been working on coming up with my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and this is essentially it. At least a simpler version of it because the butter isn’t browned nor the dough chilled nor shaped in balls and it isn’t topped with coarse salt (even though topping it with salt is not a bad idea). This is also what I love about this Nutella chocolate chip skillet cookie. You can skip a lot of steps that you would take while making regular cookies. You just have to make a dough and throw it in a skillet then bake it. Also how long you bake it depends on how gooey you want the center to be. Among all the other Valentine’s Day desserts I’ve shared in the past (Apple Roses, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Red Velvet Bars), this one is definitely the easiest. You have to try it!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter room temperature
  • cup light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • cup flour sifted
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup nutella plus a little extra for drizzling

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease a 10 inch cast iron skillet and set aside.
  • Using a mixer, cream together butter and sugar in a large bowl for about 2 to 3 minutes or until pale.
  • Add eggs and vanilla then continue mixing until completely blended.
  • Next add in in flour, baking soda and salt then continue mixing until combined.
  • Add in your chocolate chips and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Spread half of your dough in your greased skillet
  • Top the dough with your Nutella then spread it out evenly using a spatula. (You can warm the Nutella slightly to make it spread more easily.)
  • Next drop dollops of your remaining dough over the Nutella trying to cover the Nutella as much as you can.
  • Bake in your preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes depending on how thoroughly baked you want it to be. (I baked mine for 30 minutes and got a darker cookie with a more set center.)
  • Drizzle with Nutella and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
